Artist Statement

Art is my way of relieving stress. It’s hard juggling all my responsibilities at one time every other week with stress from things like school and tests or making sure I’m ready for college or getting a job. However, whatever it may be that stresses me, I can always rely on creating art to help my mind relax. Being able to sit down, put my headphones on and just see where my creativity takes me helps me forget about all the worries and stressors of daily life, and I live for it. Not only that, but the satisfaction from creating a piece of art I’m proud of is a great feeling. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that family and friends around me have recognized and appreciated the work I’ve put so much time into. I create art because it just makes me feel good. It’s my passion.

My art reflects myself because it helps me to express a side of myself others normally wouldn't see. I can show my anger and grit for soccer in a piece, or my interest and awe in nature in my sustained investigation. I’m able to put my passions into my passion through the work I create. The main techniques are very graphic, because I feel as if I have a knack for things that are pleasing to the eye and would attract others in. I’ve become very familiar with double exposure and photography through my sustained investigation and that knowledge has helped me to earn awards in Scholastics and BPA. Lots of my work also doesn’t always have to have a hidden message behind it. I just enjoy creating art for the sake of it; I like to create things that relate to me and others and that are visually intriguing to look at.

I struggled with finding my passion and my career choice in life for a long time. I switched up on so many different careers and developed so much stress and started to think I wouldn’t ever get a career in something I find interesting. That’s when DMA came along. Through the individualistic design process, I was able to find passion in graphic design and also in marketing through BPA that has helped me to decide my exact career path for college now. I plan to attend the University of Cincinnati with a major in Marketing and a 2-year certificate in Critical Visions, which is a mixture of design and business. Finally, along with attending college for marketing I will combine that with a self taught class on User Experience and User Interface Design as that is the career I eventually want. Hopefully I will be able to use my knowledge gained from DMA and BPA and my major choices and classes to combine everything I have learned to get a job I’m excited for and passionate about.
